Always store your backup no matter how created on an external device. If you do not have a high-capacity external hard drive, you should have one. They are not expensive and the best solution. I suppose you can use some sort of "cloud" based backup system, but I do not use or recommend it. Nor do I like any Backup program. I simply copy my data using simple drag and drop from the C: drive to a folder on my external hard drive.
Almost all data is in your User folder, with the minor exception of some stubborn programs like Quick Books and others. I was going to use the system image option as a backup to my Windows 7 but it's too big of a file to save on my external HDD, however, windows has the option of saving my backup to a network which has unlimited space, maybe you or someone else reading this can explain how this works.
According to Windows 7, I'm running my own network called the Home Network; I'm just using my router and cable modem for my internet setup, would this qualify as a network to save an image file to? Or is Windows referring to a larger network connected to servers or to the cloud like OneDrive? I would like to keep MS Office and all the files associated with it, not just the files only and I would like to keep other programs such as Roxio burning software, hardware drivers like my ATI Radeon HD graphics card software, Dell system drivers for other hardware like the monitor, hard drive, keyboard, webcam, printer, etc. Of course I want to keep music, documents, videos, etc.
