Do I need these? I currently do not want to setup a RAID configuration for my system. The standard I don't know what it's called is enough for me.
I'm not sure if AHCI will be helpful for that setup. Will I be missing out on anything if I skip these drivers? If I do need to install these drivers, is there a special way of installing them?
I read that I may need to install the "Preinstall" ones before the OS is installed. Any advice is appreciated. Tradesman1 Legenda in Aeternum. Jun 5, 67, 30 , 15, Tradesman1 :. Mar 3, 3 0 10, 0. I re-partitioned my HDD when I installed all my new hardware inc my zhd3 ggb mobo.
Everything was fine until i Installed ALL of the mobo drivers, and when I tried to reboot, I couldn't get past the windows start-up logo.
I am currently putting this down to the 'Sata preinstall' drivers affecting my drive. If anybody does have an answer to this thread, I too wish to know, though I am not that bothered about installing the SATA pre-install drivers, if you can install the intel rapid storage drivers without it causing an issue with my currently installed partition.
Also I just wanted to add, for some reason, Installing the intel rapid storage drivers made it so my system was stuck on the starting windows screen and I had to system restore to solve it.
I did think this might have been an incompatibility, but looking on the intel site, I can't seem to find anything which would inditcate this. I am using a gigabyte zhd3 mobo on win7 64bit. The RAID controller is not a storage controller. The advantages are as follows:. The controller-based system independently manages RAID configuration in addition to the operating system. And, it is affected by boot errors, which can damage the entire array because software-only RAID resides on the operating system. However, RAID controllers will not be affected by boot errors. It is an interface that allows exchanging data among the computer bus and the storage device.
It is a serial connector and allows transferring data faster at a higher signalling rate. SATA reduces the cable size and the cost. Most modern desktops and laptops use SATA. It cannot be used to supply power from the motherboard to the hard drive. Data is stored in disks. If a failure occurs, the data can be erased.
Thus, there should be a mechanism to avoid the data loss during a disk failure. RAID provides a solution to this issue. It copies data into multiple disks, avoiding the data loss during a disk failure. There are various types of RAID. RAID 0 is not very fault tolerant.
